The Director of Animal Health, Dr Mpho Maja, has called for the assistance of vets and para-vets in KwaZulu-Natal in identifying and reporting Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) lesions to the nearest state veterinarian.

This follows after an outbreak of FMD was confirmed on 27 May 2021 in cattle in a communal grazing area in the Mtubatuba Local Municipality in Umkhanyakude District Municipality of KwaZulu-Natal. This outbreak occurred in the suspended FMD free zone.
